| The eight different classes of tropical flowers are Zingiberaceae, Musaceae, Strelitziaceae, Lowiaceae, Heliconiaceae, Costaceae, Cannaceae and Marantaceae.
The scientific name of the heliconia family is Heliconiaceae which stems from a higher class known as the Order Zingiberales, also known as the Cannales. The Heliconiaceae is only one of eight branches that originated from the Order Zingiberales. Tropical Zion Inc. carries three of the eight which include: Zingibereae, Heliconiaceae and Musaceae. One of the most interesting things about heliconias, despite their relentless beauty and size, is their mystery. Not much is known about these spectacular flowers to date because of their unique location and lack of ability to access them.
The wonderful thing about our flowers is that they have a shelf life of two and a half to three weeks starting from the time they are cut in the fields, far outlasting other flowers in the market today. However, the hanging rostratas are the only flowers that we offer that last two weeks as oppose to three weeks. The reason for this is because the more bracts a flower contains, the less life expectancy it will have. There is little to no maintenance to keep the flowers fresh and beautiful. They only require a small amount of water and a vase with a heavy bottom to avoid tipping. Just leave the rest up to the radiance of the flowers natural beauty!
TROPICAL ZION INC. is very environmentally conscious and cares a great deal about preserving the field's and flower's well-being. Therefore, we are very proud to know that when the flowers are cut off the bushes they grow on, the bushes have the ability to rejuvenate since only a section has been cut. This means that no soil or plant life will become damaged on the farms. Also, the spot that has been cut, heals itself, replenishes and regrows. More in depth information on this process is on the "Cutting, Packaging & Shipping Process" and "Did You Know?" pages.
