All the heliconias that are brought in from the fields must first be cleaned in a specialized mixture of “chemicals” that are all non harmful to the plant. Some of the chemicals are for killing all of the bacteria that may be lingering on the plant, as well as killing any insects that may be hiding near the inner flower. The other chemicals serve in protecting the outer plant from “early death” and give it that illustrious shine.
